TMN Events had the pleasurable task of travelling to Germany for a week with a technology client and a group of 60 of their customers to attend the drupa 2016 print convention.
Drupa is the largest international printing specific conference which takes place every 4 years in Dusseldorf, Germany. Highlights include major printing and print related production manufacturers as well as industry partners from all over the world showcasing new and existing technology. Spanning 11 days, the conference hosts about 200,000 visitors, 315,000 industry experts from 1,500 exhibiting companies, and covers 2,824,450 square feet in 19 exhibition halls. Simply put, it’s HUGE!
The group arrived on Tuesday June 7th, and travelled to Cologne, Germany, where we stayed at the Hilton Cologne. That evening we dined at a traditional German restaurant on the Rhine River. It was a great kickoff event and guests enjoyed a walk through Cologne’s ‘old-town’, followed by regional food and beverage specialties.
On Wednesday the 8th we boarded busses for the ride to Dusseldorf, and spent the morning meeting with our client’s executives to hear about company news and new technology. In the afternoon the group toured the host company’s booth at drupa, and was able to see up-close all of the amazing technology on display. Back in Cologne that evening, the group walked through the Cathedral Square to the Ludwig Im Museum for a private party, live entertainment, and delicious food and beverage. Here’s the group on the way to dinner in front of the Cologne Cathedral.
Thursday was a free day at drupa, where guests were able to tour at their leisure. The TMN Events team logged a lot of miles that day, wandering around in complete awe of the enormity of the event, and all that goes into making the world of print go round.
Friday included a free morning at the conference and in the afternoon, the group reconvened to wrap up with a closing general session and roundtable discussion. The final night’s dinner was located 30 stories up at the Osman 30 restaurant in Cologne, with gorgeous panoramic views of the city and the nearly 900 year old Cologne Cathedral.
Traveling internationally for an event of this size takes months of preparation. We were fortunate enough to have help from Atlantik Network, a Munich-based event planning company who has assisted TMN with numerous events throughout Europe in the past. From contract negotiation, to restaurant and venue selection, booking air travel and ground transportation, to providing the level of excellent customer service that TMN Events is known for, this event is and will be one that we look forward to doing every 4 years! Prost!
